QxOrm and LGPL

Postby oxormnewbie » Wed Jun 06, 2012 12:43 pm

Hallo QxOrm Forum-Specialists,
i have a question and hope you can help me.

I want possibly use qxorm library in a little media manager software. First for private use.
But when the software is tested enough, i want to provide the software for download on my website or maybe for a little charge.

Is that possible with QxOrm in conjunction with LGPL?

On what must i pay attention about QxOrm Orm and his LGPL License?

I read in the web, that LGPL can be use for such things if the program is NOT static linked. It must be link dynamic.
Is that right?

Must i include Source Code of QxOrm or must include my Source Code too or only the QxOrm.dll?

There are several conflicting informations in the web? Please Help me. I want to err on the side of caution.

Thanks!

Hi,

If you link dynamically QxOrm, there is no problem with commercial apps.
If you change some code of QxOrm library, you have to provide the list of changes.
But if not, you only have to provide QxOrm.dll.

Big thanks for your reply.
That means i don`t have to open my own code too, right?

Is that at every library under LGPL? For Example Qt? Or only at QxOrm.

Yes, with LGPL (so for Qt and QxOrm libraries), you don't have to provide your code, even if it is a commercial app.

I call a "commercial app" a not open source software with a system of licensing or whatever to win money.

Be careful, QxOrm 1.2.5 just released and the license has been changed.
For more details, go to download page of QxOrm library : http://www.qxorm.com/qxorm_en/download.html
